Butoh Musical

Traditional Boogie ☆

I am creating a stage work with the residents of a small village called Nagata in Daisen Town, Tottori Prefecture, Japan. The theme of the work is "Immigration and Acceptance." There are also immigrants in Nagata, and the natives are accepting them. the immigrants are also accepting the natives and the rules of the community. This is a familiar theme for the residents of Nagata village, but it is also difficult theme at the same time because there is no consensus on "Immigration and Acceptance" for both. The immigrants are dissatisfied with traditional rules of the community and the closed situations, etc. The natives are worried that newcomers may not follow the rules, or they may not be responsible for the survival of the community and may end up going out if they dislike here, etc. There is little consensus across both sides. Depending on the situation, either one have been compromising and relieving tension, even though they were dissatisfied. This work is an attempt to clarify the current community problem, "Immigration and Acceptance." Even in the work, there are scenes that the opinions of the immigrants, and the natives do not agree or argument. This means that the audience will see one as justice and the other as injustice. The audience who are close to the immigrant's situation will feel familiar with the performers of the immigrants. On the other hand, the audience who are close to the native's situation will feel familiar with the performers of the natives. The audience agree with the behavior of the performers who are close to their respective positions. I was worried Nagata's performers would not accept the controversial theme, but it was just my misunderstanding. Everyone is seriously and enjoyably engaged in the creation under the theme. Japan is a conservative country. We avoid things that are negative, controversial, and conflicting for us. That is useful in the sense that we do not have unnecessary conflicts. However, we also avoid things that we shouldn't avoid. I think this creation is rare in Japanese society, especially in a close community. I go to Nagata every weekend for the creation, feeling hope for such generous residents of Nagata.
